Romantically realistic...

Romantic Realism is by far my favorite art movement.  It portrays man in his ideal state: happy, joyful, motivated, successful, alive.  The movement was a particular favorite of Objectivist philosopher Ayn Rand, and for good reason: her philosophy was all about man seizing the day, accomplishing goals, bettering the world by bettering himself as an individual.  It is these qualities that are clear in Romantic Realist art.

The four selections above are some of my particular favorites.  Passion is soft, sensual, and…well…full of passion.  The woman is clearly feeling pleased, aroused, alive.  Self-Made Man is a beautiful piece that shows the strength and individual accomplishment of making a life for oneself, for deciding who you want to be and which direction you’re going to go in life.  The World Is Mine is also all about seizing control of your life, and seizing the day.  It’s about man (or, in this case, woman) boldly facing whatever life will bring, standing there with the barest protection but bravely moving forward, pursuing a desired path.  Yes is all about accomplishment and freedom, about that joyous moment when you’ve achieved something, and your pride swells along with your joy.

For a large gallery of other great examples of the movement, see Quent Cordair Fine Art.
